Slime Grove stores puzzle boards, completion results, settings, daily streak, and a limited playtest event log on your device. Campaign play does not require an account. The local playtest log records the puzzle, action type, time, and active seconds for starts, completions, hints, undo, and resets. You can export it from Settings; nothing in that log is uploaded automatically.
Play insights (anonymous analytics)
To learn which levels players finish, where they stop and how hints are used, the game sends anonymous play events to PostHog, an analytics service hosted in the United States. Outside Europe this is on by default: the first time you open the app, a message on the Home screen says so, and you can turn it off in Settings. If your device is set to a European time zone (including the UK), the game asks first and sends nothing unless you agree.
Events include when the app is opened (with how many journey levels you have completed and which level is next), when a puzzle is opened, completed or left (including by closing or hiding the app), and limited properties such as puzzle ID, journey position, game mode, board size, rock count, whether a run was resumed, active or ranked time, and counts of hints, undo and resets. Which one-time play tip was shown, and whether tips were hidden, may also be included. For campaign hints, events may record when a hint is offered, dismissed or revealed, whether an ad was required, and whether an ad request earned a reward, was cancelled or was unavailable. A random offer identifier connects these steps. PostHog assigns a random anonymous identifier to this device and may receive normal network and device information when events are sent; the project is set not to store IP addresses. We do not include your board, clue layout, hint text, ad unit ID, stored hint reward key, leaderboard credential, leaderboard name or server attempt ID, and we do not create profiles of named people. If the game itself hits an error, the same channel may send an error report with the error's type, a shortened message with links and long numbers removed, and the script file and line; it never includes your board, name or saved data, and it is not sent when play insights are off. The app does not use automatic click tracking, page-view collection, heatmaps or session replay. Events are kept for one year.
You can switch play insights off in Settings at any time. This stops future collection and resets the anonymous identifier on this device. Because events are not linked to your name or account, we usually cannot single out your past events; if you need help with a data request, email support@shokode.dev, not the public issue tracker. Your analytics choice is separate from local progress and the leaderboard identity; Reset progress does not change it.
In native builds, you can choose to watch a Google AdMob rewarded ad for a campaign hint, and after journey Level 25 a short Google AdMob ad plays between some levels. Google may process device and ad interaction data under its privacy policy. Where the law requires it, the app asks for your ad consent first. On iPhone and iPad it asks once, at Level 25, whether ads may use Apple's advertising identifier; if you decline, ads are not personalised. You can review ad choices in Settings. The web build has no ad provider.
You can clear local game progress from Settings. Uninstalling the app or clearing browser site data also removes local game data. Browser or device backups may retain copies according to your settings. The game caches artwork and code after an online visit; platform stores may collect their own install diagnostics under separate policies.
Optional daily reminder and sharing
In the app, you can turn on a daily reminder. It is at most one notification a day, scheduled on your device at the time you choose for the coming week, and skipped on days you have already played the Daily; no account, server or push service is involved, and your chosen time stays on your device. The app asks for notification permission only when you turn it on, and you can turn it off in Settings or in your device settings. The Share result button only opens your device's share sheet (or copies text to your clipboard) with the Daily number, date, weekday, board size, time and streak, and where your device supports it a picture of the same facts made on your device. Nothing is sent anywhere unless you choose where to share it.
Optional leaderboards
When rankings are available, the first play of each journey level from Level 6, and any ranked Daily you start, is timed by the leaderboard. Your device creates a random private credential for this. The leaderboard stores a hash of that credential, a leaderboard name, the puzzle and date, server start and completion times, and for journey levels the number of hints you used (each adds 30 seconds to the recorded time). Your completed board is sent to validate the result but is not retained. You start with a generated Gardener name and can choose your own in Settings. Your leaderboard name is shown to your friends, with your time, rank among them and hint count. Everyone else sees only anonymous totals: how many players finished, the share of them each player beat, and the typical range of times. Do not use your real full name or contact details. Friends can report a name, and an unsuitable name is reset to a generated one. No board shows your private credential.
To add friends, you share an eight-character friend code; anyone who enters it becomes your friend, and you theirs. The leaderboard stores your code and your list of friends. You can remove a friend or replace your code in Settings, and a replaced code can no longer be used to add you. Delete leaderboard identity and scores also deletes your code and friendships. Cloudflare hosts this service and processes network requests.
Reset progress clears local campaign and daily saves but keeps the leaderboard credential so it cannot grant a new ranked attempt. It does not delete published results. In the phone app, a copy of the credential is also kept in the device's secure storage (the iOS Keychain or Google's Block Store) so it can return after you reinstall the game; on the web, clearing browser data removes it and loses access to that leaderboard identity. Settings provides a separate Delete leaderboard identity and scores action. This revokes the credential and removes public results and attempts. A minimal hashed enrollment tombstone and deletion audit record remain to honor deletion and prevent a revoked credential being reused. Backup expiry and retention schedules are still under review; no automatic score expiry policy is currently promised. Production hosting, publisher identity, and the support process must be finalized before public ranked launch.
Progress backup on the leaderboard
If you already have a leaderboard player, the app also keeps a compact copy of your progress with it: which levels you completed and their best stars, times and hint counts, your Daily streak, which tips you have seen, your game settings and which past Dailies you cleared. Unfinished boards, the play log and your leaderboard credential are not included. The copy is replaced each time it is updated, is used only to restore your progress on another device when you choose Restore, and is deleted when you delete your leaderboard data in Settings.
Optional Game Center or Google Play Games link
In the phone app you can link your leaderboard player to Game Center (iPhone and iPad) or Google Play Games (Android) in Settings, so your name and ranks can return on a new phone. Linking is never required to play. When you link, Apple or Google confirms the sign-in to our leaderboard service, and we store only a one-way hash of that account's game player ID, which provider it is and when it was linked. We do not request your Apple or Google email, contacts or friends list, we do not post scores to Apple's or Google's leaderboards, and the platform name is not shown publicly. Unlink in Settings removes the link and keeps your results. Delete leaderboard identity and scores also removes it.
